Green Initiatives

Our planet is where we all live, work and play and we want to do everything that we can to help reduce our footprint. Here are some of the ways that we’re contributing to being green.

Our Green Initiatives

As of 2019, we’ve switched to glass water bottles, wooden take-away cutlery and Eco Chit receipt rolls (every case used plants one tree). We can also email your receipt so you can skip the paper! We use plant based tea bags, compostable stir sticks and provide free reusable tote bags with the purchase of 13 or more cinnamon buns. Our tote bags are durable and should last for years so please reuse them. They’re also available for purchase.

We use unbleached bun containers, napkins and muffin bags. Our custom boxes are made from recycled material and reduce packaging by as much as 35% vs. standard cake boxes. We believe it’s better so 100% of our coffees are organic, and have been since the 1990’s. All of our decaffeinated beans are chemical-free and we only use Swiss Water Decaffeination.

On a daily basis we:

  • Offer a free beverage with the purchase of our reusable thermal mugs and water bottles and we keep our thermal mug prices low to encourage use
  • Give discounts to those who bring in their own reusable mugs
  • Provide discounts to those who bring in their own cinnamon bun take-away containers
  • Charge for extra packaging to discourage waste
  • Compost all of our daily organic biodegradable materials
  • Recycle everything that we possibly can (goal is zero waste)
  • Offer a discount on whole bean purchases for those who reuse their GFC whole bean coffee bag
  • Filter and sterilize drinking water in each of our stores to encourage zero packaging
  • Donate end of day leftovers to local woman’s shelters and our community in need

Our Community

We’re big believers in giving back to our community, which is why every year we support hundreds of local charities, teams, schools, fundraisers and events. We’re a proud supporter of the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation and donate our time and fundraising efforts to their cause.
